WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
-
Before the match, we recognized our three seniors. Abigail McCleary (Monroe, N.Y.) , Gianna Cacciola (Wading River, N.Y.) and Madi McGuire (Goshen, N.Y.).
-
Hartwick squared off against St. John Fisher with the rain holding off at the starting whistle, the Hawks took advantage and started the game with an array of good passes, getting the ball down the field with little resistance.
-
The Hawks posted the first two shots of the game, setting the tone for the offense and as well as getting it done on the other end.
-
McCleary played an integral role in shutting down the Cardinal attack in the first half, having some well-timed tackles that halted progress several times. The defense followed suit, jumping in the passing lanes and clearing the ball with success.
-
Jenna Mierek (Prospect, Conn.) did a great job controlling the pace and commanding her fellow Hawks as well winning multiple 50/50 balls that couldve spelled danger for Hartwick.
-
The first half ended in a scoreless tie but the offense was alive and ready to score, posting eight first half shots as well as two corners.
-
As the second half began, so did the rain as it certainly played a factor as the rest of the game progressed. St. John Fisher scored the first goal of the game in the 55th minute as the rain picked up.
-
Hartwick would not be deterred as they answered back with a goal of their own as Anabel Rommer (Unadilla, N.Y.) pushed the ball up field and dished it off to the speedy Cacciola who ran past the defender and netted a goal past the keeper's reach in the 62nd minute.
-
The back and forth battle ensued as the opposing team would score once more on a corner kick in the 67th minute. Through the pouring rain, the Hawks battled with all they had, putting their bodies on the line to get a goal.
-
After a couple dangerous attacks fizzled out, the Hawks pushed once more with time not on their side. An offside call against the opposing team in Hartwick's final third was the break the Hawks needed as they pushed all the way down the field where Myah Johnston (Roxbury, N.Y.) was able to swoop in on a loose ball in the box and find the back of the net in the 88th minute.
-
The Hawks displayed great composure and will as they fought their way to the draw, not letting up at any moment in the game even in the downpour. Meghan Perry (Otego, N.Y.) continued her great season in goal, picking up ten saves on the day.
