ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Hawks stumbled briefly in the first set against the Brewers, but were able to regroup to outlast Vassar in five sets to pick up the non-conference win.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Looking to get in more games, Elmira added Vassar to the day of competition for an additional match for each team.
- After their sweep of the Soaring Eagles in the 11 AM match, they quickly turned their attention to Vassar.
- At the neutral site, the Brewers capitalized on Hartwick's quick turnaround time, taking the first set 25-15.
- However, the Hawks were able to bounce back in the second set, staying just a few points ahead of Vassar, winning the second set 25-22.
- Vassar started strong in the third set, taking an early five-point lead.
- Hartwick rallied back, trading leads with the Brewers a handful of times in the set, but it would eventually be Vassar who pulled out the win.
- With a flair for the dramatic lately, the Hawks put together a set similar to the second set, staying a handful of points ahead of the Brewers, winning the fourth set 25-18 to force the fifth and deciding set.
- Hartwick asserted themselves early in the fifth set, jumping out to a 5-1 lead.
- Vassar put up two points, but the Hawks continued to put distance between themselves and the Brewers to complete the comeback match win, with a 15-8 fifth set victory.
- Hartwick once again put together a balance offensive attack with Staecia Silofau (Kapolei, Hawaii) and Shelby Swartz (Candor, N.Y.) finishing with 14 and 11 kills respectively.
- The Hawks were also a force on the serve, posting 12 aces. Four aces came from the hand of Vanessa Seymour (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), while Silofau and Kaileigh Brandow (Manorville, N.Y.) tallied three each.
- Defensively, five Hawks recorded double digits with Sarah Petz (Webster, N.Y.) leading the way with 18, followed by Brandow with 16, and Silofau with 15.
