Hawks Down Golden Flyers At Home

 

Oneonta, N.Y. – The Hartwick Volleyball team hosted Nazareth for an action-packed Empire 8 matchup at Lambros Arena.

 

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Nazareth 1 Hartwick 3

  • Location: Oneonta, N.Y.

  • Records: Nazareth (6-13, 2-2 Empire 8) (Hartwick (9-7, 4-1 Empire 8)

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Hawks started the game off in style, grabbing the first three points, two of them coming being service aces from Shaelyn Thornton(Scarsborough, Me.)

  • Using that early momentum, the Hawks coasted to a 25-17 set win as they notched fourteen kills in the opening set.

  • The opposition began to battle back leading the entire set, the team battled back and forth cutting the Nazareth lead down to one but unfortunately fell short 25-20.

  • Since the first serve of the third set went up, it was all Hawks as they flew out to a 7-0 lead to start. Determined to not give the lead back, the squad caught fire as they dominated the set 25-8.

  • It was more of the same in the fourth set,as the Hawk attack was too much to handle for Nazareth as they slammed down a game high 15 kills as the squad won their third set 25-20.

  • Leading the way for the Hawks was Kaileigh Brandow(Manorville, N.Y.) and Staecia Silofau(Kapolei,HI) as they posted 15 kills and 14 kills respectively spearheading the lethal Hartwick attack.

  • Thornton kept plays alive as well as ending them as she racked up 21 digs and ten kills to complete her stellar performance.

  • Vanessa Seymour(Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) has been strong in her debut season, totaling 46 assists fueling the potent Hawk offense.

  • Hartwick also got it done on the defensive side of things as the team got 13 blocks, Brandow led with four for a great team performance all around.

The Hawks stay home to face off against Empire 8 opponent St. John Fisher for their final home match of the regular season as well recognizing our seniors on October 14th at 12PM.
