ONEONTA N.Y. – The Hawks went toe-to-toe with the first place St. John Fisher University Cardinals in Empire 8 action on Saturday.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Hartwick looked to knock off the current leader in the Empire 8 standings on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.
- The Hawks went toe-to-toe with Fisher through the first two sets, tying the score twice in the first set despite falling 20-25.
- In the second set, Hartwick rallied from an early 4-point deficit to take a 6-4 lead behind back-to-back-to-back aces from Shaelyn Thornton (Scarborough, Me.).
- From there, the lead would change four more times throughout the set.
- Unfortunately, the Cardinals quickly took a 22-19 advantage into a 25-19 win behind two big blocks.
- The visiting Cardinals took an early lead in the third set and kept just enough distance between themselves and the Hawks to come away with the 25-15 set win to sweep the match.
- Kaileigh Brandow (Manoville, N.Y.) led all Hawks in kills with 9. The senior also recorded six digs.
- Thornton put away four aces, contributed four kills, and was tied for the team-lead in digs with seven.
- Vanessa Seymour (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and Sarah Petz (Webster, N.Y.) also collected seven digs. Seymour also assisted on 26 of the team's 28 total kills.
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
The Hawks will look to bounce back quickly as they head out on the road on Wednesday night for another Empire 8 matchup at Sage. First serve is set to begin at 6 PM.
