UTICA, N.Y. – One day after officially clinching the top seed in the Empire 8 tournament, the Hawks defeated the Utica University Pioneers on the road to complete an undefeated conference record for the second year in a row.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Hartwick started their final regular season with wins at 1st and 3rd doubles to take an early two match to one lead over the Pioneers.
- After a hard-fought loss at 1st Doubles the day before, Phoebe Olson (Jamestown, N.Dak.) and Jade Killikelly (Jamaica, N.Y.) regrouped to defeat their Utica opponents 8-3.
- The 3rd Doubles team of Colleen Marsh (Marcellus, N.Y.) and Gianna Leggieri (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) also made quick work of their Utica opponents, winning 8-2.
- The Singles round was all Hawks as all six players picked up wins.
- Killikelly, Ryann Ashby (Malta, N.Y.), Marsh, and Maggie Van Valkenburg (Highland, N.Y.) only conceded four games total to the Pioneers in their matches at 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th Singles respectively.
- Olson also defeated her 1st Singles opponent in straight sets, outlasting her opponent in the second-set tiebreak.
- Lily Vanuga (Springville, N.Y.) completed the Hawks' singles sweep, rallying back from a second set loss to take the third set 10-4.
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
The Hawks now turn their focus on the Empire 8 tournament where they will look to capture their 2
nd straight title, beginning with the semifinal match on Friday, October 13. The tournament will be held at Houghton University. Match times and opponents will be announced as those details become available.
