Elmira, N.Y. – The Hartwick Men's Soccer Team traveled to Elmira College for a semifinal showdown in the Empire 8 Men's Soccer Championship Tournament.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Hartwick kicked the game off looking to set the tempo early and gain some forward position. Putting some pressure on the Elmira backline led to a change of possession and the Hawks put up the first shot of the game in the opening minutes.

The team earned a free kick soon after and put a shot on target but the chance was saved as they continued to increase the pace.

The clock ticked away as the teams battled for possession, each team had free kicks to generate a chance but opportunities were well defended. Elmira was awarded the first corner in the 31st minute.

Hartwick did a good job putting pressure on the ball and caused the opposition to have some trouble clearing the ball as they began to control the middle of the field.

With five minutes left in the first half, Elmira generated some offensive pressure with a dangerous chance that was booted away by the Hawk defense as well as a corner that would be cleared as well.

It was a scoreless first half as the teams made it hard on each other to generate offense. Hartwick outshot Elmira four to one but Elmira won the corner advantage three to none.

The second half got underway and the Hawks were the first to make a push down the field and pressure the opposition early. A counter attack from Elmira proved to be very dangerous as a cross in the box was struck on goal but the outstretched arm of Dante Gesamondo(Lynnfield, Mass.) was able to knock it away.

Hartwick got a good look of their own as they generated a shot on goal, the chance was saved but it was a step in the right direction for the team as they began to try to formulate another attack.

Neither team could control possession as time went on with teams getting as far as the final third but struggled to find the final pass for an opportunity.

Charlie Stewart(Aberdeen, Scotland) turned away a possession for opposition as he cleared a loose ball in the box with under three minutes to go in regulation.

The second half came to a close with the score still deadlocked at 0, the Hawks posted six shots compared to Elmira's seven.

Overtime began and the opposition pressured first, Elmira earned a free kick and two corners that were cleared away by the Hawks. The first ten minutes came to a close as the stalemate continued.

The second half of overtime got underway with both teams giving it their all, trying to gain an edge over the other. Elmira would score first in the 105th minute to grab the lead.

The Hawks would unfortunately run out of time as they battled to the very end.
