WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Hawks came out strong in the first set, taking an early 5-1 lead.
  • Keuka chipped away, tying the set up at 7-7, but the Hawks pushed points behind the serve of Shelby Swartz (Candor, N.Y.) including three aces by the sophomore.
  • Despite small runs from the Wolves, the Hawks stayed one step ahead to capture the 25-21 set win.
  • Keuka turned the tables on the Hawks in the second, putting the Hawks on their heels with a 17-12 lead.
  • However, a huge block assist from Swartz and Staecia Silofau (Kapolei, Hawaii) started to turn the momentum back towards the Hartwick side.
  • The Hawks rallied back behind the serve of Kaileigh Brandow turning a three-point deficit into a two-point lead late in the set.
  • Unfortunately, the Wolves would outlast the Hawks in the set, taking the 25-22 win.
  • Hartwick played from behind again in the third set eventually turning a seven-point deficit into a 25-23 win to take the 2-1 set advantage.
  • The Wolves would not go away quietly, shutting down the Hawks in the fourth set to force the fifth and deciding set.
  • After the Hawks captured the fifth set in the regular season, it would be the Wolves who would take the 15-9 win to upset Hartwick on their home floor to advance to the Empire 8 Championship.
  • Hartwick saw three hitters notch double-digit kills in the match with Silofau leading the way with 17.
  • Shaelyn Thornton (Scarborough, Me.) put away 11, while Brandow ended with 10.
