ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hawks pushed the visiting Cardinals from start to finish, but fell just short in the Empire 8 opener, 75-61.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Hartwick came out firing in the first quarter, going 9 for 15 from the field with Bree Fargnoli (Binghamton, N.Y.) leading the way with 6 points in the opening 10 minutes of play.
- After entering the 2nd quarter down by four, Hartwick's offense went cold, only mustering four points across the next 10 minutes.
- However, the Hawks' defense also kept the Cardinals' offense relatively quiet holding the visitors to just 11 points across the quarter.
- At the end of the first half, Hartwick trailed St. John Fisher 35-24.
- The Hawks turned things up a notch in the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Cardinals 22-16.
- The run was capped off by a buzzer-beating three off the backboard from Daniella DeBiase (Staten Island, N.Y.) to bring Hartwick within five with just a quarter remaining.
- Despite staying within striking distance throughout the 4th quarter, the Hawks fell short in the end as the Cardinals closed out the contest from the free-throw line in the final minute of the game to claim the 75-61 win.
- Fargnoli paced the Hartwick offense with 16 points on 6 for 11 shooting and a perfect 4 for 4 from the line.
- Isabella Astorino (Warwick, N.Y.) added another double-double to her senior season resume, scoring 13 points and collecting 12 rebounds.
- Also scoring in double figures for the Hawks was Macy Durkin (Syracuse, N.Y.) who collected 11 points.
