3rd Quarter Surge Not Enough for Hawks to Overcome Nazareth’s Hot Start

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hawks fought back after the break to outscore the visiting Nazareth College Golden Flyers in the 3rd quarter 16-12.  However it was not enough to overcome the visitors hot start with Nazareth taking the Empire 8 win, 69-44.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Hartwick 44, Nazareth 69
  • Location: Oneonta, N.Y.
  • Records: Hartwick (1-7 Overall, 0-2 Empire 8), Nazareth (5-1 Overall, 2-0 Empire 8)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick fell behind early against the Golden Flyers in the first quarter due to a strong showing in the paint by the visitors.
  • Nazareth continued to dominate the Hawks down low throughout the second quarter, picking up 12 points in the paint.
  • By the end of the first half, the Golden Flyers had built a 41-18 lead over the Hawks.
  • Similar to last night, the Hawks turned things around coming out of the break to outscore their opponents in the third quarter.
  • However, it was not enough as the Golden Flyers continued to keep just enough distance between themselves and the surging Hawks to take the Empire 8 win.
  • Bree Fargnoli (Binghamton, N.Y.) and Macy Durkin (Syracuse, N.Y.) led the way offensively for the Hawks, scoring 13 each.
