NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Hawks picked up a key non-conference road win to close out the first half of their season on Tuesday night, defeating the John Jay Bloodhounds 62-53.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- John Jay got on the board first, with a three-pointer at the 8:33 mark in the 1st quarter.
- Twenty-five seconds later, Angelina Maselli (Burlington, Conn.) evened the score, drilling a three of her own.
- The Bloodhounds picked up one more bucket in the quarter as the Hawks went on an 8-point run to close out the first 10 minutes of play.
- Hartwick carried that momentum into the 2nd quarter, ballooning their six-point lead to a 21-point lead behind a 61% shooting performance including a 3-for-7 performance from behind the arc.
- The Hawks ended the first half with 29 boards, including 10 from senior, Sareena DiCerbo (Schenectady, N.Y.).
- Bree Fargnoli (Binghamton, N.Y.) led all scorers at the half with nine.
- John Jay turned up the pressure in the 3rd quarter, cutting into the Hawks lead.
- However, a big 3-pointer from Yadi Smith (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) with 3:12 remaining in the quarter swung the momentum back Hartwick's way and the squad wrapped up the 3rd quarter with a 20-point lead.
- The Blooodhounds would not go away quietly as the home squad was able to shrink Hartwick's lead to just 13 with just under five minutes remaining in the 4th.
- With every push John Jay would make, the Hawks would respond, battling out the final five to claim the 62-53 win.
- While Fargnoli led the Hawks in scoring with 17, several other players came up in big moments including DiCerbo who posted a new season-high in rebounds with 15.
- Maselli scored a season-high nine points all of which came from behind the arc, while Isabella Astorino (Warwick, N.Y.) blocked four shots and picked up five steals.
