Balanced Attack Gives Hawks 17-10 Win Over Gators

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Hartwick Men's Lacrosse bounced back from a tough loss on Saturday to pick up their first Empire 8 win and first win at home in convincing fashion on Tuesday afternoon against Sage.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Hartwick 17, Sage 10
  • Location:  Oneonta, N.Y.
  • Records: Hartwick (3-3 Overall, 1-1 Empire 8), Sage (4-7 Overall, 0-1 Empire 8)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Hawks controlled nearly every facet of the game from start to finish on Tuesday afternoon.
  • Hartwick out shot Sage 52-33, picked up 49 ground balls compared to the Gators' 18, and dominated the faceoff, winning 25 of 30.
  • Garrett Frost (Wading River, N.Y.) jumpstarted the offense with a rip from the point just 50 seconds into the game.
  • Hartwick went into a brief drought, but Pete Conley (Foxborough, Mass.) and Tyler Nocito (Mahopac, N.Y.) gave the home squad a 3-0 lead, scoring within 22 seconds of each other in the 4th minute of play.
  • Sage got themselves on the board just under a minute later, but the Hawks closed out the opening quarter with tallies from Frost and Shayne Kerrigan (Foxborough, Mass.).
  • The 2nd quarter saw a flurry of 10 goals between the two squads as the Gators looked to get back into the contest.
  • The Hawks used a three-goal 3rd quarter to put some distance between themselves and Sage as Colin August (Garrison, N.Y.), Matthew Locasto (Floral Park, N.Y.), and Colby Simonetti (Pittsford, N.Y.) got in on the action.
  • The cushion was needed as the Gators went on to score four-straight between the 8:31 mark and the 5:19 mark in the 4th to inch closer to the Hawks.
  • However, Kerrigan and Liam McManus (Skillman, N.J.) shut the door on the Sage comeback, notching back-to-back unassisted strikes at the 2:33 and 2:05 marks.
  • Conley led all scorers with four goals and one assist.  Simonetti and Frost each tallied a hat trick on the day, with Frost also picking up two assists.
  • Kyle McKee (Wantagh, N.Y.) picked up the win in the net, stopping 14 shots in just over 52 minutes of action.
  • T.J. Lynch (East Brunswick, N.J.) closed out the contest for Hartwick in the crease, recording two saves.
