Marten’s 8 Points Helps Hawks Fly Past Wildcats

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Hartwick Women's Lacrosse extended their win streak to five games after defeating SUNY Poly 20-1 in the team's final non-conference test of the season.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • The Hawks scored early and often, posting nine goals in the first quarter.
  • Hartwick spread the offense around in the opening 15 minutes as five different players found the back of the net to jump out to a 9-0 lead.
  • Kristen Vaccarelli (Dix Hills, N.Y.) picked up the key running-clock goal 37 seconds into the 2nd quarter.
  • Hartwick poured on nine more goals after that before SUNY Poly found their way on to the scoreboard with 4:55 remaining in the 3rd quarter.
  • Ellie Masterpole (Syracuse, N.Y.) capped off the scoring for the Hawks as she notched her second of the game in the opening minute of the 4th quarter.
  • Katrina Marten (Middlesex, N.Y.) led the team offensively picking up a team-high eight points with one goal and seven assists.
  • Vaccarelli was close behind, scoring six goals and notching one assist.
  • Elle Stringer (Rensselaer, N.Y.) also distributed the ball well, tallying four assists and scoring a goal of her own.
  • Rounding out the goal-scorers for Hartwick was Hanna Goodreau (North Reading, Mass.) with two, Emily Madigan (Syracuse, N.Y.) with four, and Claudia Pollaro (Queensbury, N.Y.) with three.
  • Defensively, the Hawks limited the Wildcats to just four shots and forced them into 21 turnovers.

The Hawks hit the road to open up Empire 8 play on Saturday, April 1 to take on the Medaille Mavericks at 3 PM.
