Hawks Fall to Farmingdale on the Road in Season Opener

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Hawks opened their 2023 campaign with a road trip to Farmingdale State on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks scored first, but ultimately fell 13-5 after a big Farmingdale 2nd quarter.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Hartwick 5, Farmingdale State 13
  • Location: Farmingdale, N.Y.
  • Records: Hartwick (0-1 Overall, 0-0 Empire 8), Farmingdale (2-1 Overall, 0-0 Skyline)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Louis Cappellino (Northport, N.Y.) put the Hawks on the board first just over two minutes into the contest with a one-timer from the top of Hartwick's offensive zone.  C.J. Denson (West Hartford, Conn.) picked up the assist.
  • Farmingdale evened the score at the 9:15 mark, with a diving shot that snuck just inside the post.
  • The Rams tallied two over the span of a minute midway through the 1st quarter and one more with forty seconds left to take a 4-1 lead at the end of the first 15 minutes of action.
  • Farmingdale picked up where they left off in the 2nd quarter, notching a goal at the 10:30 mark and again at the 9:49 mark to extend their lead to 6-1, forcing the Hawks to take their first timeout.
  • The Rams would go on to score five more times before Hartwick got back on the board with an unassisted goal from Tyler Nocito (Mahopac, N.Y.) with 55 seconds remaining in the opening half.
  • The Hawks quieted the Farmingdale State offense in the 3rd, but were also unable to score themselves, allowing the Rams to hold on to their 11-2 lead.
  • Pete Conley (Foxborough, Mass.) changed all of that with a man-up goal 55 seconds into the 4th quarter.  Garrett Frost (Wading River, N.Y.) was credited with the assist.
  • Hartwick capitalized on another Farmingdale penalty at the 9:48 mark, as Evan Johanns (Southington, Conn.) tallied his first goal of the season with an assist from Frost.
  • Unfortunately, the Rams responded ten seconds later to regain their eight-goal lead.
  • Johanns struck again five minutes later with another man-up goal.  Assisting on the goal was Conley.
  • Farmingdale would score once more before time expired to take the 13-5 win over Hartwick.
  • Kyle McKee (Wantagh, N.Y.) took the loss between the pipes for the Hawks, facing 45 shots, 25 of which were on goal.
