NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Hartwick Women's Tennis team headed to New Paltz to take place in their four-team tournament on Saturday. The Empire 8 Champions squared off with players from New Paltz, Farmingdale St., and SUNY Cortland in bracket play.
THE BASICS
- Singles
- Flight 1 – Phoebe Olson (Jamestown, N.Dak.) defeated her Cortland opponent 6-1, but fell to her New Paltz opponent 2-6 in the championship match.
- Flight 2 – Jade Killikelly (Jamaica, N.Y.) picked up a 6-1 win over her Cortland opponent, but fell to her New Paltz opponent 2-6 to take second place.
- Flight 3 – Damita Bollers (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won her flight, beating her Cortland opponent 6-0 and her New Paltz opponent 7-5.
- Flight 4 – N/A
- Flight 5 – Colleen Marsh (Whitesboro, N.Y.) finished third in her flight, rebounding from a first round loss to defeat her Farmingdale State opponent 6-4.
- Flight 6 – Lily Vanuga (Springville, N.Y.) won her first-round match 6-1.
- Flight 7 – Maggie Van Valkenburgh (Highland, N.Y.) won her flight, defeating both of her opponents 6-3.
- Flights 8 and 9 – Jess Waldmann (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) and Catherine Holderer (Perry, N.Y.) rounded out competition in singles.
- Doubles
- Flight 1 – Killikelly and Bollers won their first-round match in convincing 6-0 fashion, but lost a tight one 6-4 in the championship match against New Paltz.
- Flight 2 – Olson and Ryann Ashby (Malta, N.Y.) also picked up a first-round win against their Farmingdale State opponent 6-4, but fell 1-6 against New Paltz's second flight doubles pairing.
- Flight 3 – Marsh and Van Valkenburgh rebounded from a first-round defeat to take third.
- Flight 4 – Holderer and Waldmann also rebounded from a first-round defeat to take third.

The Hawks head directly to the Pratt Institute to take on the Cannoniers at 1 PM tomorrow in a dual match.
