Golden Flyers Down Hawks in Empire 8 Battle

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Hawks bounced back from an eight-goal deficit to get within four late in the 4th quarter, but it wasn't enough to overtake the Golden Flyers in the Empire 8 road contest.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score:  Hartwick 8, Nazareth 13
  • Location:  Rochester, N.Y.
  • Records: Hartwick (5-5 Overall, 3-3 Empire 8), Nazareth (9-7 Overall, 5-1 Empire 8)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Golden Flyers struck first on the visiting Hawks, picking up a goal at the 10:09 mark in the 1st quarter.
  • However, that was all the scoring that would occur in the opening 15 minutes of play.
  • Hartwick was able to tie the contest up just over five minutes into the 2nd quarter as Garrett Frost (Wading River, N.Y.) notched an unassisted tally.
  • Nazareth responded 30 seconds later, taking advantage of an extra man opportunity to go up by one.  That goal would be the first of four unanswered before Hartwick could get back on the board.
  • Shayne Kerrigan (Foxborough, Mass.) cut into the Golden Flyers' lead at the 2:46 mark in the 2nd quarter with an assist from Pete Conley (Foxborough, Mass.).
  • Unfortunately, Nazareth would close out the first half with two more tallies.
  • The home squad continued their string of goals into the 3rd quarter, picking up three more until Colby Simonetti (Pittsford, N.Y.) broke the streak with an unassisted goal with just under six minutes remaining in the quarter.
  • The Golden Flyers picked up another, but the Hawks fired back closing out the quarter with two goals as well as weathering a final minute extra-man opportunity for Nazareth.
  • Kerrigan notched the first of the final two goals in the quarter, while Tyler Nocito (Mahopac, N.Y.) picked up the second.  Both were unassisted.
  • Kerrigan kept the momentum going for Hartwick in the 4th quarter, notching his third goal of the game to bring the Hawks within five.
  • Two minutes later, Nazareth extended their lead back to six goals.
  • However, Simonetti and Conley scored within a minute of each other at the 10:24 and 9:57 marks in the 4th to get within four.
  • Unfortunately, that's as close as the Hawks would get, ultimately falling 13-8.
