Hawks Claim Playoff Spot with Dominant 25-2 Win over Medaille on Senior Day

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hawks sent their 2023 seniors out with style by not only defeating the visiting Medaille University Mavericks 25-2, but by clinching the #4 seed in the Empire 8 Semifinal on Wednesday.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • The Hawks jumped on the Mavericks quickly, scoring just 58 seconds into the contest.
  • The home squad did not let up after that, rattling off nine straight in the first 15 minutes of play.
  • The second quarter was no different as Hartwick went off again, this time for eight goals.
  • Pete Conley (Foxborough, Mass.) and Garrett Long (Hardwick, N.J.) paced the offense as each notched the hat-trick in the first half.
  • Scoring his first goal of the season was Harrison Kirby (Lynbrook, N.J.) at the 13:06 mark in the 2nd.
  • Hartwick picked up two more goals in the 3rd before Medaille could get on the board.
  • However, the Hawks responded right back to score five-straight including the first goal of the season from Tyler Osterhout (Arlington, Va.).
  • The Mavericks scored once more in the fourth, but Anthony Canino (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) put the exclamation point on the win with the first tally of his career at the 2:56 mark.
  • Kyle McKee (Wantagh, N.Y.) shut the Mavericks out between the pipes over thirty minutes of work, recording two saves before giving way to T.J. Lynch (East Brunswick, N.J.) to close out the contest.
  • All-in-all, 14 Hawks scored on the afternoon with Colin August (Garrison, N.Y.) leading the way with four goals.
  • Daniel Beltran (Huntington Station, N.Y.) was a force in the faceoff circle, winning 20 of 31 times.  The junior also contributed one assist and 12 ground balls.
 
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
 
The Hawks have secured the #4 spot in the Empire 8 playoffs and will travel to #1 seed, St. John Fisher on Wednesday, May 3 with a time to be determined.
