Second Half Surge Lifts Hawks to 19-7 Win at Sage as Vaccarelli Notches 100th Career Point

ALBANY, N.Y. – Hartwick Women's Lacrosse picked up another big Empire 8 win on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Russell Sage Gators on the road 19-7.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • While the Hawks scored the first goal of the contest, the offense started slow as the two squads traded goals throughout the 1st quarter.
  • Hartwick turned things around in the 2nd quarter, posting four-straight.  Kristen Vaccarelli (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and Ellie Masterpole (Syracuse, N.Y.) picked up two each in the run, while Elle Stringer (Rensselaer, N.Y.) assisted on two of the four tallies.
  • Sage came out of halftime scoring twenty-four seconds into the 3rd to cut Hartwick's lead to just five.
  • The Hawks quickly turned it around sparked by an unassisted strike from Vaccarelli at the 11:15 mark.  The goal would put the sophomore midfielder at the century mark for points in her career.
  • The visitors went on another run from there highlighted by two tallies from Claudia Pollaro (Queensbury, N.Y.) and a driving goal from Jessica Betts (South Glens Falls, N.Y.).  Betts' goal at the 4:13 mark in the 3rd was the first of her career.
  • Hartwick continued their dominance in the fourth, earning the running clock.
  • Vaccarelli's six goals and two assists led the Hawks offensively.
  • Hanna Goodreau (North Reading, Mass.) followed close behind, notching five goals.
 
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
 
The Hawks return home on Saturday to square off with the Keuka College Wolves at 3 PM.  The team will be honoring seniors, Ellie Masterpole and Kierstin Aroksaar prior to the game.
