Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hawks Soar Over the Mariners in Shutout Victory

Oneonta, N.Y. – The Hartwick Men's Soccer team closed out their weekend with a match against the United States Merchant Marine Academy, a complete team showing would earn Hartwick the win.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score:  USMMA 0, Hartwick 2

  • Location:  Oneonta, N.Y.

  • Records:  USMMA (0-4-1, 0-0-0 Skyline) Hartwick (1-2-1, 0-0-0 Empire 8)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Jake Daly (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), Timmy McQueeney (Wading River, N.Y.) and Sean Burke (West Midlands, United Kingdom)  who all found the back of the net were awarded with All-Tournament honors for this weekend's annual Mayor's Cup.
  • Hartwick and USMMA faced off in the final match of the Mayor's Cup where multiple Hawks contributed to a strong team victory that hopefully gives them momentum with conference play approaching soon.

  • The Hawks got it started early with multiple pushes into the opposing third, a promising Hawks attack was halted but a heads up play by Timmy McQueeney (Wading River, N.Y.), in which he took the ball off the defender and sank the first goal of the game from the top of the penalty box in the 13th minute.

  • With the first half coming to a close, the Men's Soccer squad outshot the Mariners 8-5 as well as winning the corner battle 6-3 in a productive first half for the Hawks.

  • The second half kicked off and the opposition began to show resistance and build attacks of their own, a dangerous attack formed by USMMA would come to a screeching halt as they had an open shot but would sail it over the Hartwick goal.

  • Defense was the name of the game for the Hawks as they stopped multiple attacks all over the field as well as denying several clears to keep the intensity up as they began to overwhelm the opponent.

  • Aden Razukiewicz (Warwick, N.Y.) posted a clean sheet in his first start of the season and picking up three saves as he commanded the defense to a stellar performance.

  • Hartwick notched one more goal on the day after some great team play to get it into the opposing box, Andres Ordonez Acosta (Estado de Mexico, Mexico) received a entry pass from Charlie Stewart (Aberdeen, Scotland) and hit a slick back heel right to the feet of the incoming Sean Burke (West Midlands, United Kingdom) for the second and final goal of the match.
