THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Hartwick Football team dropped their season opener on Saturday afternoon on the road at SUNY Maritime.
THE BASICS

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The Hawks forced a three-and-out on Maritimes opening drive to set up a scoring drive of their own.
- After the Privateers' punted to Hartwick's 35-yard line, the Hawks went on an 8-play 54-yard drive down the field.
- Ransome Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, Pa.) put the Hawks on the board with a field goal from the 11-yard line.
- Both offenses slowed down from there with the Hawks punting twice and the Privateers punting once and turning the ball over on downs.
- Unfortunately, Maritime capitalized on Hartwick's final three-and-out of the first quarter scoring at the 10:38 mark in the second.
- The Privateers would go on to score three more touchdowns in the quarter to take a commanding 28-3 lead heading into the half.
- The Hawks were able to slow Maritime down early in the third, but it was not enough as the Privateers found the endzone once again at the end of the third.
- Hartwick's defense responded in the fourth quarter, with Joshua Titus (Greene, N.Y.) forcing a fumble on Maritime's first drive of the fourth quarter.
- The Hawks' offense took over from there with first-year quarterback James Sobol (Old Forge, Pa.) hooking up with fellow first-year Dahvion Wimberly for a 72-yard strike.
- Sobol converted the ensuing two-point conversion with a rush into the endzone.
- Sobol registered 131 yards through the air, while Wimberly led the offense in receiving yards with 104 on two catches.
- Titus led the defense with nine total tackles. Brennan McNeilly (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and Jake Thorry (Sayville, N.Y.) followed with six total tackles a piece.
