WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
-
Hartwick and Utica faced off in a chippy battle from the starting whistle as both teams exhibited stout defense. The first ten minutes were spent exchanging throw ins before Utica posted the first shot on goal.
-
Despite the opposition putting a shot up first, the Hawks reciprocated the Utica pressure with several pushes of their own, spending a good amount of time in the opposing third but just couldn't find the extra pass to get a dangerous shot on goal.
-
Gianna Cacciola (Wading River, N.Y.) was everywhere on the pitch tonight, racing to every loose ball and creating space for the Hawks as well pressuring the Utica backline to several failed clear attempts.
-
Hartwick outshot their opponents six to two and won the corner battle two to one as the first half would end in a scoreless stalemate.
-
With the second half underway, the opposition would be first to strike as they scored in the 53rd minute to take a 1-0 lead.
-
The Hawks made sure to maintain composure and turned up the momentum as they battled back, forcing the opposition to hunker down in their back third as several shots were pelted at them before a handball led to a Hawks penalty. Madi McGuire (Goshen, N.Y.) was sure to execute as she put away the equalizer in the 78th minute.
-
Hartwick posted twelve shots as they looked to score another with the final minutes ticking away but the clock expired before the Hawks could formulate another dangerous attack.
-
Abigail McCleary (Monroe, N.Y.) and Jenna Mierek (Prospect, Conn.) did a great job being vocal and commanding the Hawk defense as they stifled Utica and held them to just 1 second half shot.
