ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hartwick Field Hockey team rebounded from a season-opening loss on Friday to defeat the RPI Engineers 4-0 Sunday afternoon.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Hartwick put pressure on the Engineers from the start, recording six shots on goal in the opening 15 minutes. However, none of them found the back of the cage until the 14th minute of play.
- Libby Fortin (State College, Pa.) gave the Hawks the lead with a drive from the top of the circle after Julie Ruzzi (High Falls, N.Y.) slipped her a pass from the left off of a corner insert.
- The Hawks continued to dominate play throughout the remainder of the first quarter and through the second.
- Fortin extended the lead to two with just over three minutes remaining in the half off of another drive from the top of the circle.
- Hartwick posted two tallies in the third on tips from crosses in front of the cage.
- Danielle Hand (Queensbury, N.Y.) notched her first collegiate goal in the 33rd minute of play off of Caroline Aspuru's (Farmingville, N.Y.) crossing pass.
- Senior Holly Calore (Rocky Point, N.Y.) rounded out Hartwick's scoring with a tip into the back of the cage with 53 seconds remaining in the 3rd. Ashley Tricarico (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) was credited with the assist.
- The Hawks' defense was solid throughout the contest, only allowing one corner and three total shots.
- Two of RPI's shots were on goal, but keeper, Ashley Luppens (Wading River, N.Y.) denied both to register her first career shutout.

The Hawks will make the short trek up the hill for their first road contest of the season on Thursday night for a 5 PM start at SUNY Oneonta in the Battle of the Hills.
