Hawks Down Cardinals in E8 Win On The Road

Oneonta, N.Y. – The Hartwick Women's Tennis team hit the road to face off against conference opponent St. John Fisher.

 

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Hartwick 7 St. John Fisher 2

  • Records: Hartwick (6-3, 3-0 Empire 8), St. John Fisher (2-5, 1-3 Empire 8)

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick got things started off with a contested match in #1 doubles but the strong tandem of Phoebe Olson (Jamestown, N.Dak.) and Jade Killikelly (Jamaica, N.Y.) were able to surge past their opponents winning 8-6.

  • Ryann Ashby (Malta, N.Y.) and Lily Vanuga (Springville, N.Y.) took care of things in #2 doubles, finishing with a convincing victory of 8-1 as the Hawks began to gain momentum.

  • The squad wrapped up doubles play with Colleen Marsh (Marcellus, N.Y.) and Gianna Leggieri (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) beating the opposition 8-4 giving them the sweep in doubles play.

  • Olson continued her strong form this season coming of E8 Co-Player of the Week honors, picking up yet another #1 singles victory 6-3, 7-6.

  • #2 doubles wasn't as close as Killikelly battled to a 6-4 set victory but then turned the momentum up, picking up a 6-0 set right after.

  • Marsh continued the great day for the Hawks as she posted a 6-0 win before her opponent retired in the second set.

  • Maggie Van Valkenburgh (Highland, N.Y.) capped off the day for Hartwick in style as Van Valkenburgh cruised to a 6-0, 6-0, giving the Hawks their third consecutive conference win.

 

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

The Hawks will return to Wilber Park to host Nazareth in a conference matchup on October 1st at 1PM for their "CODE BLUE" game so come out and support!.
