Hawks Fly Past Mustangs in Home Opener

Oneonta, N.Y. – The Hartwick Women's Soccer team hosted SUNY Morrisville for their home opener and did not disappoint as the Hawks would blast in five goals into the back of the Mustangs' net.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score:  SUNY Morrisville 0, Hartwick 5

  • Location:  Oneonta, N.Y.

  • Records:  SUNY Morrisville (0-2-0, 0-0-0 NAC), Hartwick (1-0-1, 0-0-0 Empire 8)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Hawks had scoring in mind since the starting whistle as the offense would muster up 12 shots in just 30 minutes.

  • As the offense kept rolling, Dahlia Landry (Center Moriches, N.Y.) would send a precision pass into the box that led to a mad dash between Jenna Mierek (Prospect, Conn.) and the Mustangs goalie but Mierek prevailed and scored the first goal of the game before colliding with the goal keeper.

  • Hartwick posted 15 shots in the first half as they led 1-0 by the end of the half.

  • Not satisfied with a one goal lead to start the half, Julia Bono (West Milford, N.J.) notched her first goal of the game after a wonderful through ball from Riley Miner (Windsor, N.Y.) just eleven minutes into the second half.

  • Bono stayed locked in as she knocked in her second goal of the game after Gianna Cacciola (Wading River, N.Y.) had a near miss off the post which Bono pounced on in the 62nd minute.

  • Cacciola would not be denied as she found the back of the net as well in the 65th minute after being set up by Grace Byrne (Lynbrook, N.Y.) to extend the lead to four.

  • Madi McGuire (Goshen, N.Y.) capped off the excellent night for the Hawks as the fifth and final goal was scored by penalty kick in the 81st minute.
