Durkin’s Career-High Not Enough as Hawks Fall at Cobleskill

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The Hawks unfortunately saw their winning streak snapped on the road in a non-conference battle with top North Atlantic Conference, SUNY Cobleskill on Friday night.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Hartwick 49, SUNY Cobleskill 61
  • Location: Cobleskill, N.Y.
  • Records: Hartwick (6-9 Overall, 4-3 Empire 8), Cobleskill (14-1 Overall, 7-0 NAC)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Cobleskill scored nine-straight on their home floor before the Hawks could get on the board in the 1st quarter.
  • Bree Fargnoli (Binghamton, N.Y.) put the Hawks on the board with a layup and subsequent free throw after she was fouled on the shot.
  • Yadi Smith (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) drilled a three thirty seconds later to jumpstart the Hartwick offense.
  • The Hawks got a handful of defensive stops and began to chip away at the Fighting Tigers' lead.
  • A steal by Caitie Unger (Warwick, N.Y.) at mid-court turned into a fastbreak layup by Sareena DiCerbo (Schenectady, N.Y.) to knot the score up at 13-13.
  • Macy Durkin (Syracuse, N.Y.) gave Hartwick a brief lead with a three from the corner with just over a minute remaining in the corner.
  • However, Cobleskill was able to tie the score back up once again just before the end of the 1st.
  • The Fighting Tigers quieted Hartwick's offense in the 2nd, holding the visitors to just nine points in the quarter.
  • The Hawks did not let Cobleskill get too far, picking up a big stop in the closing seconds of the half to stay within striking distance.
  • Unfortunately, the second half was all Cobleskill as the Fighting Tigers came out hot after halftime, converting nine of their 22 shots from the field for a 54-37 lead entering the 4th quarter.
  • Daniella DeBiase (Staten Island, N.Y.) converted the old-fashion three-point play with 1:31 remaining in the contest to get Hartwick within 10, but it was not enough down the stretch as Cobleskill closed out the win from the line to claim the 61-49 non-conference win.
  • Durkin posted a career-high 16 points in the loss, going 3 for 4 from behind the arc and 5 for 10 overall from the field.

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

The Hawks will need to rebound quickly as they return to Empire 8 play with a big road contest at Utica University at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, January 23.
