 WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Utica started the game out in front, jumping out to a 9-2 lead. The Hawks began to claw back propelled by a few steals and offensive rebounds but the Pioneers kept their seven point lead for the first quarter.

  • Hartwick began to find their footing in the second quarter with Caitie Unger (Warwick, NY) and Macy Durkin (Syracuse, N.Y.) leading the charge offensively to pull within three.

  • After trading buckets, a Yadi Smith (Poughkeepsie, N.Y) three pointer cut the Pioneer lead to two with twenty five seconds left. The team ended the first half trailing by five but carried momentum into the break, winning the rebound battle 28-25 and the Hartwick bench adding nine points compared to Utica's zero.

  • Isabella Astorino (Warwick, NY) opened up the scoring in the second half as they looked to grab the lead.

  •  A steal and a fast-break bucket by Astorino would begin to shift momentum towards the Hawks, a three pointer from Angelina Maselli (Burlington, Conn.)  cut the lead down to two once again.

  • The fourth quarter continued to be a close matchup with Utica trying to pull away, a three pointer by Unger, followed by a Smith steal led to a Unger basket down low to tie the game at 51 with five minutes left.

  • Maselli spotted Bree Fargnoli (Binghamton, N.Y.) in the paint on the break and Fargnoli was able to make the layup with contact, completing the and-one to take a one point lead with three minutes left.

  • Playing stout defense, the Hawks held the slim one point lead for over two minutes, forcing multiple turnovers.

  • Overtime began with a Utica three, they held that lead for the majority of the five minute period. Fargnoli hit a late layup to bring them within two but unfortunately ran out of time and would fall to Utica 68-62.
