Unger Nets Career High 19 To Lift Hawks Over Mustangs

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Hartwick Women's Basketball team traveled to Morrisville to face off against the Mustangs for their final non-conference game this season. The Hawks were victorious in their previous match up earlier this season, picking up a 82-60 home victory.

 

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Hartwick 58, SUNY Morrisville 53

  • Location: Morrisville, N.Y.

  • Records: Hartwick (7-12, 4-6 Empire 8), SUNY Morrisville (7-14, 4-3 NAC)

 

 WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Playing in their sixth consecutive road game, the Hawks set the tone from tip off, making their presence felt down low, Daniella DeBiase (Staten Island, N.Y.) would open up the scoring for the game.

  • The score would be tied up at ten when Morrisville called a timeout with a little over two minutes left in the first. The opposition came out the break with a three pointer but Hartwick strung together eight straight points to take the lead at the end of the 1st, by a score of 18-13.

  • The Hawks maintained their lead until about three minutes left in the half when the Mustangs retook the lead and went up by four. Caitie Unger (Warwick, N.Y.) responded with a three pointer and was fouled the next possesion and made both free throws to put Hartwick back up one.

  • Steals by Macy Durkin (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Unger were turned directly into more points as the team would go into the half leading 31-26. Unger was the leading scorer at half with 15, Bree Fargnoli (Binghamton, N.Y.) led with six rebounds. 

  • The team posted 22 points in the paint to pair with 20 rebounds.

  • With the second half underway, the Hawks continued to get into the paint and impose their will. Morrisville stayed close but Angelina Maselli (Burlington, Conn.) hit a pull up jumper from the free throw line to make it a two possession game before a timeout with four minutes left in the third.

  • The fourth quarter began with the Hawks still in front but the Mustangs showed life, hitting two threes to draw within two.

  • Hartwick would not be deterred as DeBiase hit back to back jumpers to extend their lead, they would hold the lead until the clock expired.

  • Unger led the scoring with nineteen, as well as pulling down ten rebounds for the double-double. Sareena DiCerbo (Schenectady, N.Y.) finished with 12 points and six rebounds and Fargnoli finished with nine points and nine boards.



 

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

Hartwick will return home for an Empire 8 showdown against Utica on Friday, February 2nd at 5:30 PM.
