HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Hawks put the Highlanders back on their heels in the second quarter, but were unable to come away with the win, falling 77-57 on Saturday afternoon in Empire 8 action.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Hartwick scored the first bucket of the contest, but the Highlanders took control of the 1st quarter, putting up 19 to the Hawks 11.
- However, the Hawks responded early in the second quarter as Sareena DiCerbo (Schenectady, N.Y.) converted a driving layup and then put away two free throws on the next possession to get within four.
- After a stop on the defensive end, Daniella DeBiase (Staten Island, N.Y.) knocked down a layup of her own to cut the Highlanders' lead to just two.
- Hartwick's offense briefly went cold and the Highlanders took advantage, making a 6-0 run of their own.
- Bree Fargnoli (Binghamton, N.Y.) stopped the run, nailing a three with 4:16 remaining in the half.
- The Highlanders and Hawks battled from there with Houghton taking a five-point lead at the break.
- Houghton put together a balanced attack to start the 3rd quarter to pull away from the Hawks after relying heavily on the play of Kayla Camacho who put away 24 in the first half.
- After a series of turnovers to end the 3rd, the Hawks found themselves down by 16 heading into the final ten minutes of regulation.
- The Highlanders stayed in control for the remainder of the contest for the --- win to stay undefeated on the season.
- Fargnoli led the Hawks with 19 points, while Isabella Astorino (Warwick, N.Y.) chipped in 11 and DiCerbo ended the afternoon with 10.
