WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Hawks looked to bounce back in their second consecutive road game, after falling in a tight match against Elmira.

  • Hartwick came out with early pressure to begin the first half, earning their first corner of the game, just 19 seconds in.

  • Houghton was able to clear the danger and flip the pressure onto the Hawks. The two teams would battle it out in the midfield, trying to gain an edge over one another but struggled to create forward progress.

  • The Highlanders were able to post their first corner of the day at the nineteen minute mark but were turned away by the Hawks.

  • A Hartwick foul proved to be costly, putting Houghton in prime position to score the first goal of the game.

  • Houghton took advantage of the awarded foul and were able to find the back of the net in the 22nd minute.

  • The battle for possession continued as the teams exchanged fouls as Houghton attempted to carry their one goal lead into the half.

  • An offsides call against Hartwick shut down one of their more promising attacks of the half as they looked to equalize before the closing of the first half.

  • Houghton pushed their way down the field with less than five minutes, formulating a dangerous attack but the end result was not there as they missed wide for their final attack.

  • The Hawk attack sprung into action, formulating a counter attack as they maneuvered their way down the pitch with purpose.

  • A Houghton foul in the box awarded the Hawks with a penalty kick at the 42 minute mark. Nelle Slavitsky (Conklin, N.Y.) was able to maintain composure and sink the penalty shot for her first goal of the season, knotting the game up at one a piece.

  • It was an evenly matched first half as both teams posted one corner and two shots.

  • This time it was Houghton opening the half with pressure, building off a Hartwick foul and posting a shot but were denied by the Hawks.

  • Hartwick answered back with pressure of their own, posting two corners and two shots but were unable to create an end product.

  • Meghan Perry (Otego, N.Y.) made her lone save of the day in the 66th minute as time began to wind down with the teams still deadlocked at one.

  • Houghton's last chance to break the tie came via corner kick in the 84th minute but were swarmed by the Hawk defense before being able to put up a shot.

  • Hartwick's last chance came down to the final minute of the game, generating a shot but missed wide as the Hawks and Highlanders settled for a draw.

COMMENTS FROM HEAD COACH BRIAN KNAPP

"While it's unfortunate not to come out with the win, the team should be very proud of their performance today. We spoke this week about being composed and connecting around the field and it was on full display. Today was the most complete performance we've put in all year and it's now up to us to use the confidence from this game to propel us into our final few regular season games."

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

The Hawks will return to Elmore Field for an Empire 8 matchup against the Pioneers of Utica University on Wednesday, October 16th at 6PM. This match will serve as the Erinn K. Brozman Memorial Game.
