Hawks Fly Past Fisher for Butcher’s 50th Career Win

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hawks ended their regular season schedule with a dominant 9-0 win over St. John Fisher University on Saturday afternoon, giving Head Coach Samantha Butcher her 50th career coaching victory.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • The Hawks dominated all nine of their matches on Saturday afternoon starting with a tone-setting 8-0 win by Ryann Ashby (Malta, N.Y.) and Gianna Leggieri (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) at 2nd doubles.
  • The 3rd doubles tandem of Lily Vanuga (Springville, N.Y.) and Samantha Lantzy (Valatie, N.Y.) put the Hawks up 2-0 in the match with an 8-3 win.
  • Alexandra Krasinska (Pine Island, N.Y.) and Phoebe Olson (Jamestown, N. Dak.) closed out the round with an 8-2 1st doubles win.
  • Krasinska proceeded to make quick work of her 1st singles opponent, winning 6-1, 6-0 to put Hartwick up 4-0.
  • Ashby secured the match and Butcher's 50th win with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at 5th singles.
  • The Hawks played out the rest of the matches with ease capped off by Leggieri's 6-0, 6-0 win at 6th singles.
  • The Hawks 8-0 league mark makes it three seasons in a row where Hartwick has gone undefeated in their Empire 8 regular season.
  • It is also the third time in a row that Hartwick will be the top seed entering the Empire 8 Championship Tournament.
 
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
 
The Hawks turn their attention to the Empire 8 Championship Tournament.  Hartwick will have a bye in the first round and will square off against the winner of the 4/5 matchup on Friday.  Full details will be released as they become available.
