Hawks Hand Houghton First Conference Loss with 3-0 Sweep

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Hawks picked up their second Empire 8 victory over the weekend as they handed Houghton their first conference loss of the season with a 3-0 win.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • The Hawks used a nine-point run to build up a 10-point lead that they carried throughout he first set to win 25-15.
  • Hartwick pushed points in bursts again in the 2nd set to take the convincing 25-12 win to go up 2-0 in the match.
  • The Highlanders pushed back in the 3rd set, going point for point with the Hawks eventually knotting the score at 19-19.
  • However, the Hawks picked up big kills down the stretch from Isabella Gracias (Oneonta, N.Y.), Sophia Palladino (Owego, N.Y.), and Shaelyn Thornton (Scarborough, Me.) to take the third set 25-21.
  • The Hawks were outstanding offensively throughout the match, hitting .387 with 47 kills while only committing 11 attack errors.
  • Thornton led the way with 12 kills on 19 attempts while Swartz followed that up with 10.
 
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
 
The Hawks return home on Friday, October 25 at 6 PM to square off against Keuka College in E8 action.  The match will also be the team's mental health awareness game sponsored by Hartwick's The Hidden Opponent club.
