- The Knights forced the Hawks to play in their defensive zone for most of the majority of the 1st quarter, while putting four of their seven shots on goal.
- Hartwick's defense would bend but not break for all but three seconds in the 1st as Geneseo found the back of the cage to take a 1-0 lead.
- The nationally ranked Knights continued to attack Hartwick's defense early in the 2nd quarter, causing chaos in front of the cage, forcing a penalty stroke at the 16:42 mark.
- Geneseo's Shannon Cunningham put the opportunity away with a shot that barely got by the outstretched stick of Hartwick's keeper, Ashley Luppens (Wading River, N.Y.).
- Nearly two minutes later, the Hawks gained some momentum as they tried to capitalize while Geneseo was playing down a player due to a yellow card.
- Makayla Bales (Sidney, N.Y.) got off Hartwick's first shot of the contest mid-way through the 21st minute of play, but was turned away by the Knights' keeper.
- Geneseo tacked on one more tally in the 2nd quarter to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
- The Knights jumped on the Hawks early in the 3rd quarter, picking up their fourth goal of the contest.
- However, Hartwick battled back immediately, earning their first penalty corner of the game at the 33:07 mark.
- Jessica Betts (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) took the insert and ripped a shot towards the goal but was blocked by a Geneseo defender.
- Emily Holladay (Hancocks Bridge, N.J.) took the rebound fired off a shot of her own, but hers was blocked as well.
- Hartwick weathered a few more chances by the Knights to hold the score at 4-0 in favor of SUNY Geneseo.
- The Hawks nearly cut into the Knights' lead in the first third of the 4th quarter as Betts had shot denied in the 55th minute.
- Makenzie Kensel (San Diego, Calif.) put a shot on cage as well for the Hawks with just under 10 minutes remaining, but her shot was turned away as well.
- Unfortunately that was all the Hartwick offense could muster down the stretch, ultimately falling 4-0.
