ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hartwick Hawks Women's Volleyball team heads to their 4
th straight Empire 8 Championship Tournament, beginning with a home quarterfinal contest against SUNY Brockport at 7 PM on Tuesday night.
The Hawks, who earned the #3 seed in the tournament are led by senior offensive threats,
Braelyn Hornick (Candor, N.Y.),
Staecia Silofau (Kapolei, Hawaii),
Shaelyn Thornton (Scarborough, Me.), and
Aaliyah Williams (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.). Hornick has distributed the ball effectively, creating a balanced attack with the squad hitting .233.
Junior,
Shelby Swartz (Candor, N.Y.) leads the team in kills with 233. Silofau and Thornton are not far behind, collecting 227 and 216 respectively. Williams has been a consistent threat in the middle all year for the Hawks, hitting .296 with 123 kills. Sophomore middle hitter,
Isabella Gracias (Oneonta, N.Y.) has come on strong as of late for Hartwick, setting a new career mark in kills with 18 in non-conference action against SUNY Oneonta on Saturday.
SUNY Brockport enters the tournament as the #6 seed. The Hawks defeated the Golden Eagles 3-1 in their final Empire 8 regular season contest.
