  • Records:  Hartwick (1-6 Overall), SUNY Morrisville (2-3 Overall)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • SUNY Morrisville out-shot the Hawks in the 1st quarter to take the early 15-9 advantage.
  • The Mustangs carried that momentum over into the 2nd quarter, jumping out to a twelve-point advantage with just over three minutes remaining in the half.
  • However, the tides turned for the Hawks after that as Daniella DeBiase (Staten Island, N.Y.) drilled a three to get within nine.
  • The Hawks were off and running from there, notching six of their 17 fastbreak points in the final two minutes of the quarter.
  • With those six points and another two from Yadi Smith (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) from the charity stripe, the Hawks only found themselves down three heading into the break.
  • Smith jumpstarted Hartwick's attack in the second half, with a layup to bring her squad within one.
  • The score would teeter back and forth for the remainder of the 3rd quarter with Morrisville taking the slight one-point advantage into the 4th quarter.
  • The Mustangs extended their lead to four, just five seconds into the quarter with a three.
  • The Hawks fought back immediately as Smith drilled a three of her own to get it back within one.
  • Morrisville tried to pull away several times throughout the quarter, but the Hawks stayed right on their heels eventually tying the game up at 50-50 with 3:20 remaining in regulation.
  • After trading buckets to make it 52-52, Morrisville picked up two more points from the line with 20 seconds remaining to take the two-point lead.
  • After Emma Cohen (Utica, N.Y.) collected a steal with 11 seconds left, Coach Lombard called a quick timeout to get the team organized for their possession.
  • With nine seconds left on the clock, Cohen picked up a layup in the pain to tie the game up 54-54.
  • Morrisville used the final nine seconds looking for a shot, but they were unable to get their three-point attempt to fall and the two teams headed into overtime.
  • Overtime turned into a three-point shootout with the Mustangs striking first.
  • However, Cohen responded with back-to-back threes to go up 60-57.
  • The Mustangs responded with a three of their own, but Smith put an end to their run drilling a three of her own from the corner.
  • Natalie Vredenburgh (Delhi, N.Y.) and DeBiase iced the game from the line to give Hartwick their first win of the season 65-62.
  • Smith posted a career high in points with 19.
  • Cohen added 15 points, while Macy Durkin (Syracuse, N.Y.) chipped in eight points and pulled down 11 boards.
  • "This win was a great team effort," remarked Head Coach Sarah Lombard.  "Different people stepped up in different points in the game, but Yadi really stepped up to show what she is capable of doing on both sides of the ball.  Not only did she achieve a career-high in points, but also posted a season-high four assists, collected three steals, and pulled down six defensive rebounds for us."
