Hawks Fall in Double OT Thriller at Alfred

ALFRED, N.Y. – The Hawks came up just short on Saturday afternoon, falling in double overtime in their final Empire 8 road contest, 84-81 against the Alfred University Saxons.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Hartwick 81, Alfred 84 – 2 OT
  • Location: Alfred, N.Y.
  • Records: Hartwick (1-21 Overall, 0-15 Empire 8), Alfred (11-12 Overall, 8-6 Empire 8)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick found themselves down early as the Saxons jumped out to a 12-0 lead in just under four minutes to start the contest.
  • The Hawks rebounded to claw their way back into the contest, sparked by Jeremiah Boateng (Springfield, Va.) who put away eight points down low and then another three from the line in the half.
  • Alfred, however, was able to contain Hartwick's comeback to hold the 34-24 lead at halftime.
  • The Hawks rallied in the second half, eventually taking the lead 52-50 behind a layup down low from first year forward, Henry Perkins (Albany, N.Y.).
  • The Saxons responded once again and looked destined to take the win until Boateng stole the ball out of the Alfred rebounder's hands a threw down a dunk with one second remaining in regulation to tie the game.
  • The Hawks and the Saxons went back and forth throughout the first overtime period, but it was a breakaway layup by Alfred in the closing seconds to tie the score once again to force a second overtime.
  • Hartwick took the lead early in the second overtime frame, but Alfred battled back, converting from the free throw line to take a three-point lead with 16 seconds left.
  • After a quick time out to advance the ball, the Hawks worked the ball around the arc, trying to find an opening in Alfred's defense to get off the game-tying shot.
  • Unfortunately, the Hawks were unable to convert their last second shot, falling 84-81.
  • The Hawks saw five players score in double digits in the game.
  • Boateng and Daniel Oyediran (Madison, N.J.) led the way with 15.
  • Malachi Polson (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and Perkins added 14, while Shea Barber (Wells Bridge, N.Y.) posted 10 points.
