Hartwick Defeats Worcester State in Back and Forth Battle

PANAMA CITY BEACH, FLA. – The Hartwick Women's Lacrosse Team matched up against Worcester State in the Spring Fling Women's Lacrosse Tournament and came away with a victory.

 

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Worcester State 13 Hartwick 14

  • Location: Panama City Beach, Fla.

  • Records: Worcester State (4-3, 0-0 MASAC) Hartwick (3-2, 0-0 Empire 8)           

 

 WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick would have to play catch-up to start the game as Worcester scored two goals with the first coming in the first minute of play.

  • Kristen Vaccarelli (Dix Hills, N.Y.) got the Hawks on the scoreboard after converting on a free-position shot with seven minutes left.

  • After drawing another foul, Hanna Goodreau (North Reading, Mass.) scored off a free-position shot to knot the game at two.

  • The Hawks continued to pressure the Lancer defense, earning another free-position attempt that was scored by Vaccarelli to take the lead at the end of the first quarter.

  • Katrina Marten (Middlesex, N.Y.) spotted and dished it off to Goodreau for her second goal of the game to open up the second quarter.

  • Vaccarelli cut through the defense and scored for her fourth hat-trick this season. She followed up by scoring another goal via free-position shot for six unanswered goals for the Hawks.

  • Worcester State scored to break the run but soon after Kara Anderson (Collingwood, Ont.) answered back with a goal of her own from a free-position shot.

  • The first half ended with the Hawks in front 7-6 as the Lancers scored three more goals to end the half.

  • Emily Madigan (Syracuse, N.Y.) assisted Vaccarelli for a goal to give the team some breathing room.

  • After a Lancer goal, Marten notched her second assist after finding Elle Stringer (Rensselaer, N.Y.) put one past the keeper with ten minutes left to keep the lead at two.

  • Anderson registered her second goal off another free-position shot to put the Hawks at ten.

  • Following two Lancer goals, Claudia Pollaro (Queensbury, N.Y.) found the back of the net off the dish from Marten.

  • With her third assist of the game, Marten now sits in second place all-time in program history with 87 career assists.

  • Pollaro assisted Anderson in the final seconds of the third quarter, holding a 12-10 lead.

  • Worcester State scored the first three goals in the fourth, taking the lead with five minutes and fifty seconds left.

  • Vaccarelli scored her sixth goal of the game to equalize the teams at 13.

  • Pollaro connected with Anderson once again as she rifled one past the keeper for the eventual game-winner with three minutes on the clock.

  • The Hawk defense held strong in the final minutes, Brooke Lynett (Acton, Mass.) picked up eight saves in the first half. Alexa Patrakis (Wilbraham, Mass.)  relieved Lynett in goal, picking up seven saves in the second half to secure the win.

Hartwick will wrap up the Spring Fling Women's Lacrosse Tournament in Panama City Beach, Florida, matching up against Western New England on March 21st at 2 PM (EST) / 1 PM (CST).
