MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Hartwick Women's Lacrosse team hit the road for the first away contest of the season against the Mustangs, picking up their first win of the 2024 campaign.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Playing under a light rain to begin the game, the two teams spent the first five minutes of the game vying for possession and creating shots.

A foul by Morrisville allowed Katrina Marten (Middlesex, N.Y.) to capitalize off the free position attempt, finding the back of the net to open up the scoring at the ten minute mark.

The Mustangs answered back with a goal of their own in under a minute to register their lone goal of the quarter.

Hartwick took control from that point on, formulating a balanced attack that proved to be too much to contain.

Just 22 seconds after the Morrisville goal, The Hawks were able to score two goals in one minute, Marten was able to spot Claudia Pollaro (Queensbury, N.Y) who rifled one past the keeper. Elle Stringer (Rensselaer, N.Y.) followed up with a goal of her own shortly after.

Kara Anderson (Collingwood, Ont.) notched her first of two goals in the quarter, sneaking one into the right corner of the goal after being assisted by Marten.

Kristen Vaccarelli (Dix Hills, N.Y.) continued to display her scoring prowess, picking up her first goal of the game.

Emily Madigan (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Hanna Goodreau (North Reading, Mass.) both scored after being assisted by Marten to wrap up a eight goal quarter for the Hawks.

The second quarter began and Vaccarelli tacked on another goal 45 seconds in. 33 seconds later Anderson completed her hat trick with a strike to the back of the net.

Morrisville was able to get back in the scoring column before Vaccarelli completed her hat trick as well off the feed from Pollaro with a little over seven minutes left.

Hartwick ended the first half 14-3 after Marten and Stringer each scored their second goal of the game.

The opposition controlled the start of the second half as they registered the first goal of the half with 11 minutes left.

Vaccarelli responded with a goal with four minutes left, a Mustang foul 30 seconds later allowed Vaccarelli to score again, this time on a free position attempt to put the Hawks up 16-4. She capped off the third quarter with her third goal of the quarter with under a minute.

Gwen Cox (Washingtonville, N.Y.) and Maura Donoghue (Paramus, N.J) notched their first collegiate goals in the fourth quarter.

Nine different Hawks scored as Vaccarelli led the way with six goals and Marten led with four assists in the victory.
