ALFRED, N.Y. – The Hawks saw their comeback attempt fall short, falling on the road at Alfred University in Empire 8 competition.
THE BASICS
- Final Score: Hartwick 9, Alfred 11
- Location: Alfred, N.Y.
- Records: Hartwick (3-7 Overall, 1-2 Empire 8), Alfred (9-2 Overall, 3-0 Empire 8)
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The Saxons carried over the energy from their pre-game Senior Day ceremony into the early minutes of the contest, scoring three goals in three minutes.
- Alfred struck once more in the 1st quarter before the Hawks could get on the board.
- Shayne Kerrigan (Foxborough, Mass.) notched Hartwick's final goal with 51 seconds remaining in the opening quarter.
- The Saxons posted two more tallies to start the 2nd quarter until Garrett Frost (Wading River, N.Y.) took over, notching all four of Hartwick's goals from the 10:29 mark in the 2nd to the 9:08 minute in the 3rd.
- Two of Frost's goals were unassisted, while Kerrigan and Seth Bello (Holliston, Mass.) registered assists on the other two.
- Alfred was able to stop Hartwick's momentum briefly, with the home squad scoring two within one minute of each other to take an 8-5 lead.
- However, Colin August (Garrison, N.Y.) found the back of the net to keep the Hawks within striking distance to close out the 3rd quarter.
- Both offenses stalled in the early parts of the final quarter until Tyler Nocito (Mahopac, N.Y.) was able to get the Hawks within one with an unassisted turn around strike.
- The conference contest would go back and forth from there with Hartwick responding to every Alfred attempt to pull away.
- Unfortunately, an Alfred U tally with 1:01 left in the contest sealed the 11-9 victory for the Saxons.
