Marten and Pollaro Hit Milestones as Hawks Shut Down Wolves on the Road

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Hartwick Women's Lacrosse Team continued their Empire 8 Conference slate with a matchup against the Wolves and came away with a win to remember.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Hartwick 19 Keuka 0

  • Records: Hartwick (6-5, 2-1 Empire 8), Keuka (1-10, 0-4 Empire 8)
     

 WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Hawks came flying out the gates, winning the opening draw control and putting up a shot in the first minute.

  • Katrina Marten (Middlesex, N.Y.) hit Kristen Vaccarelli (Dix Hills, N.Y.) with a quick pass and Vaccarelli was able to cut in and put it past the keeper for the opening goal with 13:25 on the clock.

  • After a forced turnover by Hartwick, Vaccarelli scooped up a ground ball at midfield and marched down the field, scoring her second goal of the game with 7:48 left.

  • Kara Anderson (Collingwood, Ont) scored the final goal of the quarter, cutting across the Keuka defense and slinging one across her body to the lower right side of the goal with 13 seconds left.

  • The second quarter started quickly, Marten spotted a cutting Claudia Pollaro (Queensbury, N.Y.) who ripped one past the keeper to put the Hawks up four.

  • With that assist, Katrina Marten notched her 100th career assist, joining Hailey Pooler '19 (Adams Center, NY) as the only two Hawks achieving this incredible feat.

  • Marten didn't stop there as she lobbed a pass over a defender, finding a cutting Hanna Goodreau (North Reading, Mass.) for a goal on the ensuing possesion.

  • Vaccarelli notched her tenth hat trick this season, scoring with 12:12 left.

  • Marten scored her first goal of the game, earning a free position attempt after a Keuka foul.

  • Anderson scored her second goal with style, faking high and putting one into the low left corner of the goal to go up eight before a Keuka timeout with 5:40 left in the half.

  • Anderson followed up with another goal on the following possession, registering her fourth hat trick this season.

  • A Keuka foul in the final seconds of the shot clock allowed Hartwick a free position shot that was converted by Vaccarelli to go up ten with a minute left in the half.

  • Hartwick displayed a great team effort, putting up 26 shots while holding the Wolves to 0.

  • The second half opened with an Elle Stringer (Rensselaer, N.Y) goal, with Anderson picking up the assist.

  • Goodreau jumped in front of a pass in front of the goal from the Keuka keeper and scored to put the Hawks up 12.

  • Emily Madigan (Syracuse, N.Y.) converted on a free position attempt for her first goal of the game with 8:11 left.

  • Anderson picked up her fourth goal and Goodreau completed her hat trick after an assist from Marten to go up 15 with 4:43 left in the third.

  • Pollaro closed out the third quarter with a goal, picking up the ground ball from her previous shot and scoring.

  • Jammie Decker (Penn Yan, N.Y.) scored the first goal of the fourth quarter with five minutes left as Marten picked up her sixth assist. The two connected for another goal at 3:31 mark.

  • Stringer was able to spot Pollaro who quickly flicked the ball over the keeper, hitting the back of the net in the final seconds of the game.

  • With that goal, Claudia Pollaro has reached 100 career points.

  • Four Hawks picked up hat tricks as Anderson and Vaccarelli led with four goals, Marten led with a season high seven assists.

Hartwick will head to Utica to continue their Empire 8 road slate as they square off against the Pioneers on Wednesday, April 17 at 4 PM.
