ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hartwick Women's Lacrosse Team went head to head with SUNY Oneonta on a rainy afternoon, battling back and forth but eventually fell to the Red Dragons.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Hartwick faced early pressure from SUNY Oneonta, conceding an early goal a minute in.

The Red Dragons added on two more goals before Kristen Vaccarelli (Dix Hills, N.Y.) was able to get the Hawks on the board at the nine minute mark.

Katrina Marten (Middlesex, N.Y.) cut the lead to one, sneaking one past the goalkeeper less than a minute after the Vaccarelli goal.

Oneonta scored but Hanna Goodreau (North Reading, Mass.) answered back with a goal of her own to keep them close.

The back and forth battle ensued throughout the game as the Red Dragons scored before Vaccarelli was able to notch her second goal.

Vaccarelli scored once more to complete the first quarter hat trick and to keep the team within two as the first quarter ended, trailing 7-5.

Hartwick controlled the second quarter as Kara Anderson (Collingwood, Ont) scored the first goal of the quarter, three minutes in.

Elle Stringer (Rensselaer, N.Y.) knotted the game up at seven, finding the back of the net at the seven minute mark.

The Hawks conceded the go-ahead goal with four minutes left in the half. Claudia Pollaro (Queensbury, N.Y.) rifled one past the keeper after a feed from Marten to bring the game into the half tied at eight.

The Red Dragons got the second half started quickly, scoring 49 seconds into the third.

Hartwick strung together four straight goals with Marten starting the run with a goal at the thirteen minute mark.

Emily Madigan (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored off a feed from Marten to keep momentum up.

Vaccarelli notched her fourth goal and Goodreau grabbed her second goal as the Hawks led 12-9 with a little over ten minutes left.

After two goals from the opposition, Pollaro scored once again from a Marten dish to give the team some breathing room.

Following an Oneonta goal, Vaccarelli found the back of the net again to go up two goals.

The Red Dragons scored two goals in the final minute to bring the game to 14 entering the fourth quarter.

The opposition retook their lead with a goal at the 12 minute mark.

Hartwick took advantage of an Oneonta yellow card as Goodreau tied the game at 15, coming off an assist from Marten with seven minutes left.

Oneonta scored three consecutive goals in the next six minutes to pull ahead, Marten scored a goal with one minute but the Hawks ran out of time to complete the comeback effort.

Vaccarelli led scoring with five goals, Marten added on three goals and led the team with four assists.
