Tennis Falls to New Paltz in Spring Opener

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hawks dropped their spring opener at home, falling 9-0 to the visiting SUNY New Paltz Hawks.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • The Hawks started off the match with two hard-fought losses in doubles play.
  • The first doubles partnership of Lily Vanuga (Springville, N.Y.) and Ryann Ashby (Malta, N.Y.) fell 4-8.
  • Gianna Leggieri (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) and Maggie Van Valkenburgh (Highland, N.Y.) dropped an incredibly tight second doubles match, losing in 8-6 in the tie breaker.
  • Hartwick surrendered their third doubles match by forfeit.
  • In singles play, Van Valkenburgh highlighted the play for the Hawks, narrowly losing the first set of her third singles match. 
  • Unfortunately, the Hawks would drop all six singles matches.

The Hawks wrap up their spring schedule tomorrow with a road trip to William Smith.  First serve against the Herons begins at noon.
