ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Hartwick Women's Lacrosse team head into their fourth consecutive Empire 8 Tournament under the direction of Head Coach Nora Fallon-Oben.
The Hawks enter the playoffs with a 3-3 Empire 8 record, earning the #4 seed in the tournament. The team will travel to St. John Fisher University to square off against the #1 seeded Cardinals on Wednesday, May 1st at 7 PM.
The winner will advance to the Empire 8 Championship game, held at the highest remaining seed. On the other side of the bracket, #2 seed Utica is set to host #3 seed Nazareth.
Hartwick has had several players make an impact, contributing to their success this season. Leading the way for the Hawks is the tandem of Kristen Vaccarelli (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and Katrina Marten (Middlesex, N.Y.). Vaccarelli and Marten consistently add fuel to an explosive Hawk attack as Kristen sits 2nd in the E8 with 57 goals and Marten leads the E8 with 40 assists.
The two also rank 4th and 5th in points per game in the conference, Vaccarelli averages 4.21 points per game and Marten sits at 4.14 points per game.
The defense has been just as effective as well, ranking third in the Empire 8 with an 11.1 goals against average. Hartwick is also one of three Empire 8 teams to record a shutout this season, coming earlier this season in a 19-0 conference win over Keuka.
The winner of the Empire 8 tournament will earn an automatic berth into the 2024 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament.
