THE BASICS

 WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick got their 2024 season underway swiftly, earning a corner kick in the first five minutes of competition.

  • Despite the early corner, Delhi was the first to generate a shot, missing high at the ten minute mark.

  • Nick Nowak (Shoreham, N.Y.) was responsible for the first Hawk shot on goal, aiming bottom left but was saved by the Delhi keeper.

  • The Hawks continued to work, mounting pressure on the Delhi backline as the shots began to pile up.

  • Delhi struggled on offense, only generating three shots in the first half after being swarmed by Hawks all over the field.

  • Hartwick posted seven shots and two corners in the first half as the Hawks looked to carry this momentum into the second half after a scoreless first.

  • The second half began in favor of the Hawks as they generated three chances in the first five minutes, forcing Delhi into a tough spot.

  • With both teams trying to gain an edge over one another, the game got increasingly more physical, resulting in yellow cards for both squads.

  • The Hawks were locked in on defense, completely denying the Broncos of any shots for the final thirty minutes of the game.

  • Coach Scott's squad continued to push forward, creating offense from their stout defense, being able to push through the Delhi defense but could not find the final result.

  • The game ended in a stalemate as the Hawks outshot the Broncos 15-6 and won the corner battle to three to one.

  • Despite the tie, it was still a great showing from the Men's squad, shutting down the Delhi offense that was ranked the 3rd scoring offense in NCAA Division III in 2023.

COMMENTS FROM HEAD COACH JOHN SCOTT

"Our team has changed significantly from Fall 2023 to Fall 2024. With that said, tonight was very pleasing. We moved the ball really well throughout the first half. Second half, the home team came back into it, but our defensive reaction to stick together was excellent. We then finished the game strong, a goal for our efforts would have been great, but we're not disappointed with the final score being 0-0."

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

The Hawks will return to Elmore Field for their 2024 home opener against SUNY Morrisville on Tuesday, September 3rd at 6:30 PM.
