Field Hockey Falls 4-1 in Opener at U of R

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Hawks hit the road on Friday night for their conference opener against the University of Rochester Yellowjackets.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • The Hawks fell behind quickly, conceding a goal just over two minutes into the contest.
  • Hartwick was able to hold the Yellowjackets scoreless for the next 21 minutes of play before the host squad struck again, making the score 2-0.
  • The reasserted themselves in the second half, as Makenzie Kensel (San Diego, Calif.) cut Rochester's lead in half with a blast from the left side of the circle into the right corner of the cage.
  • The Hawks were once again able to contain Rochester's offense into the 4th quarter.
  • Unfortunately for Hartwick, the Yellowjackets picked up two goals within two and a half minutes of each other early in the 4th to go up by three.
  • The three-goal lead would stand for the host squad, defeating Hartwick 4-1.
  • Fifth year senior, Ashley Luppens (Wading River, N.Y.) and first year, Ava Reynolds (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) split goalie duties for the Hawks, combining for 13 saves.

The Hawks will turn their attention to another non-conference road test, traveling to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Sunday for a 1 PM game.
