Hawks Fall to Engineers in 4th Quarter

TROY, N.Y. – The Hawks wrapped up their opening weekend with a late 4th quarter loss to the Engineers on Sunday afternoon.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score:  Hartwick 3, RPI 5
  • Location:  Troy, N.Y.
  • Records:  Hartwick (0-2 Overall), RPI (1-1 Overall)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Engineers got on the board quickly, picking up an early tally just 50 seconds into the game.
  • Just over two minutes later, the Hawks evened the score after Danielle Hand (Queensbury, N.Y.) was fouled on her shot attempt forcing a stroke.
  • Ashley Tricarico (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) converted the shot for Hartwick, knotting the score up at 1-1.
  • It didn't take long for RPI to strike again, taking a 2-1 lead with a goal at the 6:15 mark in the 1st quarter.
  • The Hawks proceeded to hold the Engineers scoreless for the remainder of the 1st quarter and into the latter part of the 2nd quarter.
  • During that time, Hartwick posted two goals of their own to flip the script on RPI, taking a 3-2 lead.
  • Hand redirected a pass inside the circle from Caroline Aspuru (Farmingville, N.Y.) for the equalizer.
  • A minute and thirty seconds later, Hand slipped a pass from the right side of the cage to the waiting stick of Natalie O'Malley (Pleasantville, N.Y.) who deposited it into the far post for the go-ahead-goal.
  • Unfortunately, RPI converted a stroke with just over thirty seconds remaining in the half to tie the game up at 3 all.
  • Both squads had their chances in the second half including two additional stroke opportunities for the Engineers in the 3rd quarter.
  • After missing the first stroke in the 3rd wide right, Ashley Luppens (Wading River, N.Y.) stepped up to stop RPI's second attempt with 22 seconds remaining in the quarter.
  • The Engineers put the pressure back on the Hawks in the 4th picking up two goals in the final 10 minutes of play to secure the 5-3 win.
