WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Hawks prepared for kick-off, squaring off with new Empire 8 conference member, SUNY Geneseo.

  • The Knights kicked off the game and got on the attack swiftly, posting a shot a minute into the game that would be saved with ease by Meghan Perry (Otego, N.Y.).

  • Geneseo almost got on the scoreboard at the 3 minute mark, but the goal was taken back, due to an offsides call.

  • Hartwick looked to get their attack up and moving after the early pressure from Geneseo, working in the midfield, trying to unravel the Knight defense.

  • A push from the Knights looked dangerous as they pushed down the field with numbers, a cross sent into the box would be cleared away by Morgan Perry (Otego, N.Y.) to keep the game scoreless.

  • An errant pass from the Hawks proved to be costly as Geneseo counter attacked and were able to find the back of the net, taking a 1-0 lead at the 29 minute mark.

  • The Hawks trailed for the remainder of the half as they worked to build momentum, but struggled to find open Hawks in the opponent's final third.

  • With the second half underway, Hartwick faced early pressure once again as Perry came up with two saves in the first ten minutes.

  • The lead swelled to three as the Knights scored a goal at the 62 minute mark and returned with another score at the 64 minute mark.

  • With their backs against the wall, the Hawks continued to give it their all, winning 50/50 balls and making key tackles.

  • Nicasia Santos (Flemington, N.J.) almost connected on a long shot for their first goal of the game but an incredible save from the Geneseo keeper kept the deficit at three.

  • The Hawks would unfortunately run out of time as they fell to the Knights in their Empire 8 opener.

COMMENTS FROM HEAD COACH BRIAN KNAPP

"Lots to learn from the game today. Our attention to details must improve if we are going to reach our true potential. Geneseo is a quality team with a couple of very special players. But in order to compete, we have to be more disciplined with our own standards. This group has shown a great ability to bounce back from a couple of tough results already this season and I have all the faith that we'll double our efforts and focus for our upcoming matches next week."

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

The Hawks will hit the road for a non-conference matchup against the SUNY Delhi Broncos on Tuesday, September 17th at 7PM.
