WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
-
Hartwick matched up with the Broncos for their final non-conference test, setting the tone early with an attack into the opposing third off the kickoff.
-
The Hawks maintained firm control on possession as the game unwinded, keeping the ball away from Delhi with an array of passes coming from all over the field.
-
Coach Knapp's squad got their first look on goal at the seven minute mark, following up with two more shots on goal as they began to figure out the Bronco defense.
-
The first corner of the game was awarded to the Broncos, the Hawk back line was quick to clear the ball and give possession back to the midfield.
-
Hartwick's swarming defense allowed the Broncos to muster just one shot on goal, a Delhi attacker worked her way into the box but a well positioned Meghan Perry (Otego, N.Y.) was able to stonewall the shot.
-
Hartwick continued to impose their will with their presence in the midfield, as the team continued to click, they were awarded their first corner.
-
The corner led to the first shot attempt in over 15 minutes for the Hawk attack, but were turned away.
-
The Hawks were not deterred as they continued to work hard, Jenna Mierek (Prospect, Conn.) and Grace Byrne (Lynbrook, N.Y.) did a great job facilitating the offense and getting the attack downfield.
-
After being awarded another corner at the 40 minute mark, a failed clearance by Delhi proved to be costly as Ella Weber (Lenhartsville, Pa.) was able to dish the ball off a lurking Lily Dempsey (Schenectady, N.Y.) who was able to find the back of the net with a strike from inside the box for her first collegiate goal.
-
Hartwick almost scored once more at the end of the half with a great look and shot attempt, but unfortunately knocked off the crossbar to end the first half.
-
The Royal Blue and White continued to control the pace of the game as the second half got underway, putting up two shots on goal in the first five minutes.
-
Delhi only posted one shot on goal in the second half as they struggled to get past the stout Hawk backline.
-
The Hawks looked to score once more but could not get past the Delhi keeper, despite the scoreless second half, the team displayed great effort on both ends of the field with great communication, picking up yet another shutout victory.
COMMENTS FROM HEAD COACH BRIAN KNAPP
"We can be happy with the final outcome and keeping a third clean sheet tonight on the road. We started off really sharp in the first half and were dictating play very well. When we play simple and move the ball, we look very good, but when we overcomplicate things and let complacency sneak in, we let teams hang around. This was a game we didn't put out of reach like we should have but creating quality chances like we did, are steps in the right direction. There were some great moments and always plenty to build on. Now we turn our focus on learning from the game and focusing on our conference matchup with Naz this weekend."
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
The Hawks will return to Elmore Field for an Empire 8 matchup against the Nazareth Golden Flyers on Saturday, September 21st at 2PM. This will also serve as Women's Soccer's CODE BLUE game so come out and show your support!
