Nazareth made the first push for goal, sending a well placed shot from outside the box, destined for the top left corner of the goal, but Meghan Perry (Otego, N.Y.) was able to jump up and knock it away for a difficult first save of the day.
-
The Golden Flyers would make another push downfield, working their way towards the box, the attack looked promising until the entry pass would be cleared away by Reilly Groff (Monroe, N.Y.), halting the attack.
-
A Hartwick foul in their half led to a Nazareth free kick, generating a shot on goal after a couple passes but Perry was able to stonewall the shot.
-
The Hawks stood strong despite the mounting pressure from Nazareth, the Golden Flyers posted one more shot in the half, clanking off the crossbar as the first half ended in stalemate.
-
The team displayed a great team effort in the first half, meshing well in the midfield and communicating well to shut down the Flyer attack.
-
Hartwick came out the second half with high intensity, flooding the passing lanes and pressuring the Golden Flyers to react quickly.
-
The high intensity would earn the Hawks their first corner of the game after posting zero shots in the first half.
-
Jenna Mierek (Prospect, Conn.) sent in a beautiful lob pass from the corner, finding Morgan Perry (Otego, N.Y.) rising above the chaos in the box and finding the back of the net near post, for the first goal of the game in the 51st minute.
-
The two keepers exchanged saves as both offenses seemed to begin to click and figure out each other's defenses.
-
Millie Caldon (Gilmanton, N.H.) worked hard to create space for her fellow Hawks as the team's great passing allowed the speedy Caldon to get on the wing and generate different looks for them.
-
Nazareth answered back with a score of their own with a cross into the box as a Nazareth attacker tapped it into the goal in the 64th minute.
-
The Golden Flyers kept their momentum going, finding their way back at Hartwick's end of the field and took a 2-1 lead with a strike from outside the box in the 69th minute.
-
Nazareth looked to extend their lead, pushing down the field with numbers, the Golden Flyers were able to get a loose ball into the box but Grace Byrne (Lynbrook, N.Y.) was quick to clear the ball and stop the attack.
-
The Hawks would not be deterred as they have displayed many times this season, tying up the game just three minutes later after Mierek sent in another wonderful pass from a corner attempt, pinpointing a lurking Stella Rowley (Little Falls, N.Y.) who was able to head it through traffic, tying the game at two a piece.
-
The Royal Blue and White generated a couple more shots on goal but were unable to beat the Nazareth keeper for a third time.
-
Nazareth would post the final shot of the game in the 89th minute but the defensive prowess of Perry was still on full display as she would earn her fifth save of the day, ensuring a draw.
COMMENTS FROM HEAD COACH BRIAN KNAPP
"This game showed the heart and determination of a team that has something to prove. We talked about being relentless and selfless today and it showed in the way everyone worked for each other. When players put the team before themselves we can achieve great things together and today was a prime example of that. I'm extremely proud of the effort the group put in today and they should be proud of themselves for leaving absolutely everything they had on the pitch today."
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
The Hawks will head to Utica for an Empire 8 matchup against the SUNY Poly Wildcats on Wednesday, September 25th at 2PM.
