WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
-
The Hawks came flying out the gates against the Mustangs, registering their first shot, just 23 seconds into the game.
-
Hartwick rang off six more shots before Morrisville could compose themselves and answer back with a shot of their own that would be snagged by Meghan Perry (Otego, N.Y.).
-
After being turned away on her first three shots, Addyson Galuski (Watertown, N.Y.) found the back of the net, scoring her first collegiate goal, receiving a wonderful set-up pass by Kayla Grassi (Montgomery, N.Y.) to break the scoreless tie at the 33 minute mark.
-
The Hawk defense continued to suffocate the Mustang attack, holding them to just two shots in the half as the Hawks looked to capitalize on their scoring opportunities in the second half.
-
With the first half coming to a close, the Royal Blue and White dominated the pitch, registering 11 shots and one corner kick as they maintained their high tempo since the starting whistle.
-
Coach Knapp's squad continued to apply pressure on the opposition, testing the Mustang keeper, four minutes into the half.
-
An offsides call on Hartwick did not deter the attack at all as the Hawks would win possession back. Reilly Groff (Monroe, N.Y.) sniped a goal from over 15 yards away over the outstretched keeper for her first collegiate goal.
-
Jenna Mierek (Prospect, Conn.) put her finesse on display as well, ripping a shot from over 15 yards that was too hot to handle for the keeper to put the Hawks up three.
-
The Hawks did a great job keeping the Mustangs in their half, forcing them to make the right decision and being active in the passing lanes. Hartwick played a great game on both sides of the ball, disrupting the Morrisville attack while formulating a potent attack of their own as they picked up their first win of the season.
COMMENTS FROM HEAD COACH BRIAN KNAPP
"We're happy to get the desired result tonight, and it's always nice to get multiple goals from all different goal scorers. We could admit we were not close to our best but to still come away with the result and a clean sheet is great. There were a number of positives to take away from our play, besides the goals. I'm excited for the group to build on our team first mentality from this game as we prepare for a big Mayor's Cup weekend against two quality opponents."
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
The Hawks will return to Elmore Field for the annual Mayor's Cup Tournament, beginning on Saturday, September 7th against Susquehanna University at 12:30 PM.
