WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Hawks and the Saints prepared for battle as the winner of the match would be crowned Mayor's Cup Champions.

  • It was a physical battle from the starting whistle with the teams exchanging fouls in the first seven minutes.

  • St. Lawrence struck first, scoring at the nine minute mark to put them ahead.

  • Hartwick earned two corners but could not formulate a shot as they looked to build off the prior momentum.

  • The Saints possessed the ball for the majority of the half, making it difficult for the Hawks to get their attack clicking.

  • Dante Gesamondo (Lynnfield, Mass.) made a brilliant save in goal with a Saint attacker just a few steps away from him, denying an almost certain goal.

  • Alex Norgeot (Cohasset, Mass.) did a great job in tandem with his back line, cutting multiple Saints' chances short and clearing the ball.

  • St.Lawrence scored their second goal of the game at the 41 minute mark to close out the first half.

  • Gesamondo was tested early to start out the second half but was able to get his hands on the shot and try to get his squad back on track.

  • Jake Daly (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) put up the lone shot of the half that was unfortunately turned away by the keeper.

  • The Hawks conceded two more goals in the second half as time would expire before they could mount a comeback.

  • Hartwick battled hard over the weekend, earning second place in the tournament. Dante Gesamondo, Jake Daly and Kwame Amissah-Arthur (Federal Way, Wash.) were selected to the All-Tournament Team.

COMMENTS FROM HEAD COACH JOHN SCOTT

"We move on from this weekend, and we'll be better from this experience from today's game in particular. The team is working hard and has started the season off well. Putting it all into perspective, we have played four games and lost one. We have to put this behind us and move on again."

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

The Hawks will return to Elmore on Wednesday, September 18th for a "Battle of the Hills" matchup against #25 SUNY Oneonta at 6:30 PM.
