WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
-
Since the starting tip, both teams look to push the pace and overwhelm one another with their intensity.
-
Brockport broke the stalemate but a three from Brian Bonin (Cicero, N.Y.) got the Hawks on the board and ready to compete.
-
Henry Perkins (Albany, N.Y.) got to work in the painted area early, displaying his fancy footwork to free him up for a turnaround jumper for his first points of the night.
-
Perkins got the ball in the low block and converted again, coming off a feed from Bonin as the Hawks tried to capture their first lead
-
Isaiah Thomas (Manitou Springs, CO.) made his debut in the Royal Blue and White, providing instant value with a pull-up jumper for his first points of his Hawk career.
-
The two teams went on a cold spell for several minutes before Brockport was able to break the tie with a three pointer with 12 minutes left.
-
Xymier Thomas (Binghamton, N.Y.) was able to convert on a driving layup through contact for his first bucket of the game, pulling the Hawks within one.
-
With the second half underway, the Golden Eagles began to let it fly from downtown as Hartwick began to fall behind but were determined to stay in the game and work their way back.
-
Joey Mclaurin (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) swung momentum back towards Hartwick after a Brockport run, connecting on a tough floater while being fouled for his first points of the contest. Mclaurin connected on his free throw attempt to bring the deficit to ten.
-
X. Thomas set a brick wall of a screen to free up Mclaurin, Joey was able to get the nearest defender to commit, leaving marksman Mike Gitz (Commack, N.Y.) wide open on the wing for three.
-
Gitz and I. Thomas drained shots from beyond the arc as Mclaurin continued to connect in the mid range area as Coach Cooper's squad entered the half trailing seven.
-
Brockport continued to light it up from the three point line, opening the half with four consecutive threes.
-
The Hawks continued to chip away at the lead but struggled to keep up with the Golden Eagles' red hot three point shooting as they hit eight threes in the half.
-
Shane Micallef (Warwick, N.Y.) made the most of his limited time on the court, ripping off two threes and a pull up jumper from the free throw line to connect for eight points in just over a minute.
-
Three Hawks finished in double digits with Perkins led the way with 13, Mclaurin followed with 12 points and Isaiah Thomas finished with 11.
